Probably the largest outdoor gallery in the world has nearly 8,000 paintings

Standing at the very top of Olivet Mountain, the castle is one of the most important Renaissance monuments in Bohemia. It was built out of love, a quality that does not fade with time. If you decide to visit it, you will not only encounter top period architecture, you will also experience the grandeur, airiness, picturesqueness and unrepeatable scenery of the castle arcades.

The inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999 confirmed the uniqueness of the entire castle complex. The castle was built by Vratislav II of Pernštejn in 1568-1581 for his beautiful Spanish wife Maria Manrique de Lara. The next owners were the Trattmansdorff family, the Waldstein-Wartenberg family and the Thurn-Taxis family. The building boasts its unique sgraffito decoration, with 8,000 scribbles with original motifs and a rare set of figural sgraffiti covering the walls. A great rarity is the classicist castle theatre with a preserved set of stage decorations by Josef Platzer in the so-called puppet arrangement. There are only three other original theatres of this type in the world.

In addition to the basic tour, Litomyšl Castle also offers a shortened tour suitable for families with small children and an extended tour for more demanding visitors. The basic route presents the most interesting features of the chateau - the unique chateau theatre, figural sgraffito and representative halls. In addition, the extended tour includes a visit to the guest rooms and the castle chapel. In the castle building you can also visit the extraordinary exhibition of historical pianos of the National Museum, the City Picture Gallery on the 3rd floor of the castle and the exhibition of sculptures by Olbram Zoubek in the Castle Cellar.
