Julius Mařák, Antonín Dvořák, Max Švabinský, Josef Váchal, Bohdan Kopecký
Did you know that you can climb the magnificent arcades of the castle for FREE? You can reach them via the staircase in the east wing and if you do, you will certainly not regret it. In addition to the view of the entire complex, framed by Renaissance architecture, you will also have the opportunity to enter the City Picture Gallery.
During its more than 90 years of existence, the Litomyšl Gallery has managed to collect more than two thousand works of art, many of which can be ranked among the top Czech fine arts of the 19th and 20th centuries. Its imaginary foundations were based on the desire to create an exhibition hall presenting the works of local natives, most notably Julius Mařák, professor at the Prague Academy and founder of Czech modern landscape painting, and Antonín Dvořák, one of the most important representatives of genre painting in the Czech Republic. Works by Max Švabinský, Josef Voleský, Josef Matička, Olbram Zoubek, etc. are also presented here. The collection also includes works by prominent personalities of the Czech art world - Josef Čapek, Emil Filla, Otakar Kubín, František Tichý and others.
The picture gallery is part of the Litomyšl Municipal Gallery, which prepares workshops for children on Saturdays and on the last Thursday of every month you can get involved with art. More here.
