Red Tower
Stay in the chateau brewery
The Red Tower is the only visible remnant of the late Gothic fortifications of the Upper Town of Litomyšl. It was built at the turn of the 15th and 16th century under the rule of the Bones of Postupice, whose coat of arms is also placed in the masonry. It takes its name from the colour of the broken limestone from which it is built. In the western facade, which is perfectly visible from the vantage point between the church towers, there is a walled portal that originally led to the walls. Today the tower is part of the premises of the Faculty of Restoration of the University of Pardubice and houses the Museum of Restoration and Historical Technologies.
