LITOMYŠL / The first edition of the documentary mini-festival "DO ZAHRADY" will take place on Saturday, 15 September 2018 in the garden on the Castle Hill in Litomyšl, next to the El lamíno café. The festival is intended for all lovers of documentaries, radio and music.
From 5 pm we will start with two radio documentaries. The first one will be Liquid Love Motherland by Iva Strnadová, a documentary filmmaker from Litomyšl. A documentary essay about milk, the life-giving cocktail of nature produced by mothers for their young, it deals, among other things, with the controversy of breastfeeding in public and the issue of long-term breastfeeding. The second radio documentary, Man, Best Friend of the Dog, was made by Eva Lammelová with her French bulldog Tonka. Czechs are the biggest dog owners in Europe and the documentary explores how intense the relationship between dog and human can be. Do owners allow their pets to sleep with them in the bedroom?
Eva Lammelová is also the author of the idea to organize the festival in Litomyšl, and is therefore the main organizer of the whole project together with the Castle Hill.
Each documentary will be followed by a debate with the authors, moderated by sociologist Lukáš Brýdl, who will ask you what topics you are interested in and what you think documentary filmmakers should make films about?
From 7pm, Prague's Loukotě will play their alternative rock inspired by blues and folk. After that, we will listen to the music of a young musician duo from nearby Svitavy called Hello Marcel, who are dedicated to punk electronica, a genre of electroclash.
The culmination of the mini-festival will be the summer cinema at 9 pm. We will show the documentary film Love me if you can, directed by Dagmar Smržová, who will personally introduce the film. Dagmar opens up the taboo topic of sexual assistance for people with certain disabilities and offers a sensitive insight into their intimate lives. The film is about a trio of young men who do not give up their desire for love.
The themes and the way these documentaries are handled are unconventional to the point of controversy. Come and join us for reflection and discussion. If it rains, we will have an indoor option set up at the Coworking Carriage House on Castle Hill, and we will be hosted by El Lamino café throughout the mini-festival.
