LITOMYŠL / More than 150 teachers and school principals from all over the Czech Republic will come to the Castle Hill in Litomyšl. Three days of lectures, workshops and an accompanying programme await them. The conference, focused on education, aims to inspire and motivate - to give a positive kick-start. Around twenty guests and experts will speak at the third edition. For example, Susanna Bäckman will come from Finland, and Břetislav Svozil will talk about his laboratory school. Ondřej Liška, former Minister of Education, has also promised to attend. Bob Kartous will talk with guests about teacher education. Martin Veselovsky from the Internet television DVTV will record several interviews on education with his guests during the conference.
One of the goals of the Kick Up Your School Festival is to build continuity of education on Castle Hill. Litomyšl is not only a city of culture, but also of education. For example, one of the first printing presses in the Czech territory was located on the Castle Hill, a monastery operated here, and for several years there was even a bishopric. The Piarist Order, which founded a school for poor boys here, used very advanced teaching methods for its time. Today, there is a faculty of restoration and a secondary school of education in Litomyšl. The conference is thus being held in the beautiful grounds of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in a place where people and their ideas have always met.
Although the conference is primarily intended for teachers and principals of primary schools, the general public is also interested. "There is a huge interest in the conference. As soon as registration opened, one-third of the places were taken, and although we have been increasing capacity this year, we now have the last 18 places left. So registration is still possible via the website www.nakopnetesvojiskolu.cz," says David Zandler, director of the Chateau Hill Contributory Organisation, which organises the conference.
The conference is definitely not a closed event for experts only. The organisers traditionally open part of the programme to the general public. Everyone can experience the atmosphere of the festival. "We did not want to make an event that would be closed only for teachers. We think that education affects all of us. That's why we would like to see especially parents from the public at the lectures," explains David Zandler.
Short inspirational lectures are open to the public on Sunday 24 February from 14.00. Speakers will include Ondřej Liška (former Minister of Education), Petr Hájek (Architect of the Year), Světlana Čiberová (make-up artist) and Břetislav Svozil (director of the laboratory school in Brno). After a short break, during which it is possible to visit the stands of the exhibitors, a moderated discussion on the topic of teacher education will follow. It will be moderated by Bob Kartous and one of the guests will be Karel Rýdl. The price of admission is 100 CZK. On Monday, 25 February, from 18.00, the filming of interviews by the Internet television DVTV with the moderator Martin Veselovský will be open to the public. Participants will have the opportunity to experience live the atmosphere of the filming of this popular Internet television. The price of admission is 200 CZK.
Both programmes will take place in the Castle Riding Hall on the Castle Hill, and although it will be possible to buy tickets on the spot, we recommend using the pre-sale at the information centre in Litomyšl or write to info@zamecke-navrsi.cz for tickets.
