LITOMYŠL / Guided tours of the Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross will enrich the planned events. Queen tribute bands, the hit of summer scenes Night at Karlštejn will perform. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the inscription of the castle grounds on the UNESCO List, another Lounger Holiday Tour will take place.
On Wednesday, August 14, Queenie is heading to Litomyšl under the open sky. One of the most acclaimed Queen tribute bands in the world and the most successful in the Czech Republic will also perform on Castle Hill as part of their summer tour. Experience Bohemian Rhapsody live! Precise renditions of the songs of this legend of world rock in original arrangements and keys, absolute technical perfection and perfectionism. All this is Queenie led by singer Michael Kluch. Eager visitors can shorten their wait for the concert with a guided tour in the Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross. The tour starts at 5 p.m., the concert starts at 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, 27 August, the church will be open from 10 p.m. not only for visitors to the Holiday Lounger View, which attracts music and relaxation fans to the Chateau Gardens. The evening tour will offer a church in which a large laser cross glows. A sacrificial table that breathes. Discover the imposing architecture of the Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross, which stands out in the evening light. On your tour, see the illuminated sacred installations and discover the story of the Baroque pearl of East Bohemia. The evening view from the church's lookout is something not to be forgotten. On August 30, the hit of summer scenes heads from Karlštejn to the Litomyšl State Chateau. The original Thalia Award-nominated performance Night at Karlštejn with an all-star cast featuring legendary hits by Karel Svoboda starts at 8 p.m. The musical takes place throughout the courtyard, from the windows of the monument, on the walls and among the audience. Here too, visitors can shorten their wait for the performance with a guided tour of the cathedral, which starts at 6.30 pm.
The Baroque Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross was built between 1714 and 1725 by the Italian architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi. After Alliprandi's death, František Maxmilián Kaňka took over the completion of the church. The church burned down four times in its history, was closed after 1968 and gradually fell into disrepair. In 2011-2015 the building underwent a complete reconstruction. The church was literally brought back to life. A new exhibition Angels on the hill and a beautiful view of the city were created in the church. Today, the church is not only a spiritual place of contemplation, but also an exhibition of religious art and a cultural hall at the same time. The space of the temple is complemented by contemporary art installations from the workshop of the author duo Václav Cigler and Michal Motyčka.
The temple is open free of charge during opening hours, and the interactive family programme "Up to the Angels" is also free of charge. Entrance to the lookout from the church's mezzanine is charged 30 CZK. The entrance fee to the exhibition of religious art from the collections of the Hradec Králové Diocese Angels on the Hill is 60 CZK, visitors can climb the steel footbridge under the church vault.
On special occasions and night tours of the church, it is possible to admire the light sacral installations of Václav Cigler and Michal Motyčka Mensa and the laser Light Cross.
