The Litomyšl Regional Museum is not a quiet place. It stands right on the very valuable excavations, the remains of a busy road that connected two parts of the town more than five hundred years ago. You enter the museum through Josef Pleskot's very contemporary architecture and get close to history.

The first floor allows you to enter almost directly into the archaeological excavations, and just around the corner a beautiful replica of Litomyšl's square awaits young and old alike. Račte vstoupte is an interactive program full of Litomyšl houses that you can open, have fun and learn a lot of interesting facts. The houses are part of Litomyšl, which will guide you through the most beautiful places of the Castle Hill.

The museum is located in the baroque building of the former Piarist schools, which underwent a general reconstruction in 2012-2014. The new permanent exhibition presents the unusually rich history of Litomyšl from its beginnings to the present day. Remarkable are not only the remains of the medieval buildings around the so-called Scholastic Gate, but also the oldest camera in the Czech Republic, the executioner's sword, a working replica of Křižík's arc lamp, the ESO 500 motorcycle and many other unique items. For (not only) younger visitors, a varied interactive programme has been prepared - for example, you can try out how the old cartographers measured distances, dress up in the dressing room in copies of bourgeois and folk clothes from the 19th century, or play the game Under the Old Power.

The museum runs a number of educational programmes for children and adults as part of the School at the Castle. In winter and summer, there is a large playroom for children. The museum organises many short-term exhibitions with a wide thematic focus. The current programme can be found here.

The museum, which is administered by the Pardubice Region, also includes the Bedřich Smetana Birthplace, located in the chateau brewery, and the nearby Josef Váchal Museum.
