A mecca of contemporary architecture. This is what Adam Gebrian calls Litomyšl.
The bold and daring journey of Litomyšl, a town of ten thousand inhabitants, in the world of cutting-edge architecture began in the 1990s. During the reconstruction of the Monastery Gardens, an architectural competition was held, which was a relatively unique feat in the context of the size of the city and the time. It was also the first of a series of bold steps that led to the current shape of the city and brought about a number of prized realisations. Litomyšl is simply alive with quality architecture and urbanism. That is why every year, on the occasion of World Architecture Day, it organises the Archimyšl Festival.
The event takes place on the first weekend in October. Every year, guests can look forward to a series of lectures, moderated discussions, guided tours and several openings. With the participation of top not only Czech architects, we would like to bring architecture and building students from all over the Czech Republic to Litomyšl. It is the students who get the space to present their own projects at Archimyšl. A very popular part of the festival are trips to see the modern architecture of Litomyšl, compered by the city architect. In the field of architecture, we also think about all age groups; workshops for children are prepared, led by experienced lecturers and students. The Litomyšl Castle offers unconventional building history tours, which take you to places where the average visitor definitely does not go. And that's not all, every year is something special and brings an original twist to the programme.
