Litomyšl in the run-up to Christmas is like lace on a window.
The Angel Sundays of Advent are a traditional part of the pre-Christmas time on the Castle Hill. You may not be able to buy presents for your loved ones at the beautifully lit stalls, but you will experience what is truly essential at this time.
The point of Advent Sundays is to pause in time, which is fast-paced, hectic and often during which we forget to spend enough time with our loved ones. A trip to Castle Hill is a very good idea to get away from baking, cleaning and shopping. You don't have to worry about being cold here, so come for the whole afternoon. The programme on Sundays consists of concerts each year, with fires lit in designated baskets. With mulled wine or punch in hand, you can indulge in a cultural experience in the pleasant warmth. You can also warm up in the adjoining annex of the Piarist College, where theatres and a programme for the little ones take place. In the beautiful surroundings of the Baroque Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross there is an exhibition of contemporary and historical nativity scenes. In addition to classic wooden or paper Czech nativity scenes, you will also see Spanish nativity scenes or very contemporary works made of ceramics, textiles, beads, wires and other unusual materials. Particularly in sunny weather, the view from the lookout between the towers of the church is a breathtaking experience, from where we can see the events of the entire Advent Sundays in the palm of our hands. When you get hungry or thirsty you will be attracted by the hundreds of lights that decorate the stalls. These offer real gourmet specialities and if you are craving something you have never experienced before in winter, you can roast your own roast over the fire. The nearby Chateau Cellar is home to an annual exhibition of Christmas decorations. You may be surprised at what can be conjured from glass and you can even buy selected pieces here. On your way back, don't forget to stop by the goats Bleskule and Adela, who spend Advent with us every year on the Chateau Hill. Children will appreciate the opportunity to feed them dry bread.
Come or stay, meet your friends on the hill and remember that Advent is all about mutuality, friendship and good times:)
We look forward to seeing you.
